The driving age in NJ is 17. The state of NJ has an “early bird route” that allows a student driver, at the age of 16, to drive with supervision only after they receive a minimum of 6 hours of behind the wheel driving instruction with a NJ state-certified driving school.

Unfortunately no. The driving school must do all that for you. In fact, if the student driver loses their permit, you must contact the driving school to get a replacement for him or her.

Yes. All Lacey Driving School vehicles have a dual brake system, allowing the instructor to stop the car if (or when) necessary. This is required by the state of NJ.

First off, you’re not alone! Lacey Driving School offers additional training behind the wheel, whether you’ve trained with a different driving school or us. Please refer to our services  page for more detail.

Lacey Driving School will schedule the appointment to take the behind the wheel NJ Road Test when the permit is issued. The date of the exam will be listed on the lower center portion of the back side of the NJ learners permit. Most NJ Road Test appointments are scheduled for early morning on the date of the student driver’s 17th birthday.

Yes! Lacey Driving School offers additional training courses for future new drivers of all kinds. We will do everything we can to make sure you get your NJ drivers license, and are the safest driver possible. See our services page for more details.

Yes! You are allowed to use these tools if/when your vehicle is equipped with them; however, Lacey Driving School would like you to know how to do this without these tools in the case when you may be in a vehicle that is not equipped with them.

Of course! Lacey Driving School enjoys seeing our clients through the entire process. Not only are we happy to schedule the time to take your student driver to the road test, and use our vehicle for the test, but many of our clients request a refresher lesson as part of this service.

Yes. Any new driver younger than 21 years old is required to complete the New Jersey MVC GDL program. For more information, please visit http://www.state.nj.us/mvc/index.htm to view the full GDL guidelines and restrictions.

Yes you can, with some stipulation. It is not required that a driving school take your child to the road test; however, you MUST have an emergency brake in the middle of the front seats IF your vehicle has a full center console.  If the center console denies access to the brake pedal for an emergency stop by the inspector, you are not allowed to use that vehicle

If you do not have a suitable vehicle, or if you would like to have Lacey Driving School take your student driver to the test, we are happy to provide you with current pricing for this service and to get you on our schedule.

You may be eligible for insurance discounts after completing Lacey Driving School’s 6 hour behind the wheel training program and upon receiving the NJ practice permit. Check with your insurance provider for details.

Further, you can take a Defensive Driving Course, which will make you eligible to receive auto insurance discounts and even erase up to 2 points from your driver license.
