There is also an extra Motor Vehicle fee. $10 for the permit & $4 for Red Decals.


  • You must be 16 years old
  • Pass the New Jersey State written test
  • Pass the vision test
  • Complete 6 hours of behind-the-wheel training by a State Approved Driving School


Teenage drivers in New Jersey must work through a graduated driver licensing (GDL) program to become fully licensed. As part of this program, 16 year old’s must enroll in an approved driver education course and practice driving with a licensed instructor before being issued a provisional license.



At Lacey Driving School,

our State accredited program for 16 year old teen driving students with a copy of the State Exam Web Receipt from the High School. (proof student has passed the written exam) consists of:


  1. Transportation to Motor Vehicles to obtain a permit, vision exam, plus 6 hours of training behind the wheel practicing parallel parking, Reverse, K-Turns, and driving in local traffic and on the highways.
  2. Upon successful completion, we will validate your driver’s permit with Motor Vehicles, and we will schedule the appointment for the road test.
  3. You will also receive a 6 hours driving school certificate.


Our services are all door to door. This means that we will pick you up and drop you off at home, school, or office, provided that your location is within our service area.

Driving lessons encompass:

  • Convenient door-to-door service: We offer pick-up from your residence, school, or workplace.
  • Comprehensive guidance on the dashboard, controls, and safety features within the vehicle.
  • Instruction on New Jersey's road regulations.
  • Explanation of street signs, signals, and pavement markings.
  • Hands-on practice in smooth starting, stopping, and acceleration.
  • Understanding intersections, including right-of-way rules and pedestrian safety.
  • Detailed instruction and practice in the fundamentals of turning.
  • Safety measures for reverse driving.
  • Parallel parking practice using traffic cones.
  • Mastery of K-turns.
  • Techniques for highway driving, covering entry, lane changes, and exits.
  • Safe merging into traffic.
  • Identification of road signs, potential hazards, and exits.
  • Navigation through toll booths.
  • Passing other vehicles and responding to being overtaken.
  • Proper speed maintenance.
  • Encouragement of courteous behavior and maintaining a safe following distance.
